OUR STORY
We needed a simple solution to a complex problem
My daughter is a headstrong, determined young woman with big aspirations of attending a powerhouse university. Like many families, we had countless conversations about the feasibility and value of different colleges. My wife and I often questioned whether the high price tags truly matched the opportunities promised. Despite many back-and-forth discussions, we found ourselves stuck—wanting to support her dreams but also needing a clear way to evaluate the financial reality.
Our biggest fear was encouraging her to attend any university she wanted, only to place a severe financial burden on her future.
On a stormy Saturday morning, I got up early determined to find a solution. That solution took shape as a fairly complex Excel file. Once we could see all the numbers in one place—and removed about 95% of the emotion—the choice became much clearer. What had felt overwhelming and emotional suddenly turned into a straightforward financial decision, giving us peace of mind and giving her confidence in her path forward.
That experience inspired me to share this tool so other families can navigate the same tough decisions with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
